Donna Toussaint -- An Introduction

Donna & Greg Toussaint with grandchildren Danielle & JoshuaThank you for visiting my website.  I’m running for Nevada State Assembly District 5, and I’d really appreciate your support.  Let me tell you about myself…

Las Vegas has been my home for most of my life.  I was raised here, I went to school here, I met and married my husband here, and my children are all native-born Nevadans.  I’ve seen Las Vegas grow from the small town that I experienced as a child in the Fifties, into the thriving metropolis we have today.

My husband Greg and I met at a high school football game at our alma mater, Las Vegas High School.  That chance meeting was the start of our life’s journey together.  We're blessed with three wonderful children: Katherine here in Las Vegas, and Michael and Kent who both live in Southern California.  We also have two beautiful grandchildren, Joshua and Danielle.

I was a stay-at-home Mom for many years.  Then I attended Pierce College in Woodland Hills, California majoring in Computer Science.  After college, I held a series of increasingly responsible positions in the information technology field.  I managed large staffs of computer professionals for major corporations.

Over the past decade, my focus has turned to my community.  Here are some of my proudest accomplishments:

  • Member of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department’s Citizens Review Board from 2001-2007 – learned much about the problem of crime and the need for better policing.

  • Children Michael, Katherine & Kent with Donna & Greg ToussaintHelped lead the fight to stop the FAA’s “Right Turn” – now before the U.S. Court of Appeals.

  • Currently serve as a board member of City of Las Vegas Youth Neighborhood Association Partnership Program (YNAPP), working with youth from 8-18 on community service projects.

  • Co-founder of the annual Lakes Festival of Lights – a free community event for families put on by volunteers.

  • Served as president of a master homeowner association with over 4,000 homes, from 1998-2007 – developed a clear understanding of the problems that homeowners face in dealing with their HOAs, and how to overcome them.

  • Testified before the State Legislature repeatedly on much-needed homeowner association reform for several sessions – worked with both sides of the aisle and got legislation passed with only two dissenting votes.

  • Worked closely with Clark County, the City of Las Vegas, the Metropolitan Police Department, and the Southern Nevada Water Authority – to improve the quality of life in my neighborhood.

  • Graduated from the first City of Las Vegas Citizens Leadership Academy – gained insight into how local government works and what problems they face.

  • Was named Citizen of the Month by the City of Las Vegas.

  • Received a Certificate of Congressional Recognition for her leadership for the Lakes Festival of Lights.

From my early work as a volunteer at Child Haven and Opportunity Village, to later helping elementary kids learn to read, to today helping underprivileged kids become tomorrow’s leaders, I have a proven record of helping children.  As someone with ten years of experience in a large master homeowners association, I understand the problems and pitfalls of HOAs and what needs to be done to improve the lives of the people who live in them.

Armed with these life experiences, I’m ready to make a difference in Carson City.

Thank you for your consideration,

Donna Toussaint
